Thunder Road was a wooden, racing roller coaster opened in 1976. It was named and originally themed after the 1958 movie, Thunder Road, and celebrities Bobby Allison and David Pearson were at Carowinds for the grand opening! It was closed on July 26, 2015, to make room for the expansion of Carolina Harbor!
